At VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, our experienced healthcare teams are dedicated to meeting the needs of veterans, their families and their caregivers. We provide confidential help for veterans, service members and their families at no cost in a non-medical setting. Our services include counseling for issues such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST). We can also connect you with more support in VA and your community.
Veterans from rural areas can access counselors and staff at the Henderson Vet Center remotely to receive services. The spouse and children of an active Service member who are reassigned outside of Nevada will remain eligible as long as they remain continuously enrolled in an educational institution supported by the state of Nevada. All military veterans with a driver's license, a state ID with a veteran designation, or a DD 214 form are entitled to a reduced transportation fee. The Transportation Network System for Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for Southern Nevada provides veterans with transportation to VA medical appointments at VA medical centers that would otherwise have no means of transportation. In addition to these services, there are other programs available to veterans in Henderson, Nevada.
The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles offers a special registration program for veterans who have received the Medal of Honor or Purple Heart. Applicants must submit a complete application from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, an application for special enrollment for SP 96 veterans, and official documentation (contained in the application) as proof that they received the Medal of Honor or Purple Heart. This program provides grants to veterans service organizations and state veterans service agencies to provide transportation services in eligible counties. VA2K, Walk and Roll, donations for homeless veterans, activity event, Southern Nevada Health System in Las Vegas, VA are some other initiatives that provide assistance to veterans in Henderson. Non-resident Active Service members and their families who are assigned to a permanent service based in Nevada are eligible to purchase Nevada hunting and fishing licenses at resident prices. Veterans can apply at any Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles office or online on the Nevada MyDMV website.
